Balblair Distillery is a Scotch whisky distillery located in Edderton, Ross-shire, Scotland. Founded in 1790, the distillery was rebuilt in 1895 by the designer Charles C Doig to be closer to the Edderton Railway Station on the Inverness and Ross-shire Railway line.
Balblair is what you imagine a distillery should be. Their home sits on an ancient Pictish gathering place, tucked away near the banks of the Dornoch Firth.
Their time-intensive methods make for more flavour-intensive malts. In the words of their Distillery Manager, John MacDonald, “making whisky should be a craft, not a process.” And he ensures this runs through every aspect of what they do, right down to how they label their casks. Their are hand-stencilled and dated by the men who filled them, affording their whisky the respect it deserves.
They believe whisky is something to be enjoyed. It takes care, dedication and experience to create their whisky. Their approach is unhurried, uncomplicated, and uncompromising. The quality of our whisky is exceptional, and keeping it that way is what drives them; not quantity.
Balblair single malt Scotch whisky is intriguingly complex and satisfying. They capture the intense esters at the start of the spirit cut to give their Whisky the core characteristics of apricots, oranges, spices, floral notes and green apples. The heavier oils and lipids at the end of the cut are also captured, giving leathery, nutty and full-bodied characteristics
